What is UVIS?

UVIS is a disaster victim identification system developed by Nihilent for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), New York City and, also implemented in New Jersey, that facilitates victim identification in mass fatality events. UVIS is a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies and makes for a highly efficient victim identification system that brings in a high degree of empathy to a highly charged emotionally upsetting mass fatality events. It brings in transparency and dignity to the victims and the affected families and facilitates a sense of case closure compassionately.

Nihilent’s Domain Expertise in Workflow Applications for the Medical Examiner’s Office

Nihilent helped build a comprehensive and highly scalable Case Management System (CMS) that also includes a model for mass fatality incidents that automates the functions of the ME offices at a city, county or state level.

A Case Management System (UVIS CMS) is a custom workflow application for death investigations that helps to automate operations of the ME office. Working with various stakeholders in ME offices at the city, county, and state-level over the last 15 years, Nihilent has gathered significant knowledge and understanding of the processes, issues, and challenges faced by the investigators and MEs while dealing with daily cases and mass fatality scenarios.

A Case Management System is also customizable to handle large states with multiple counties with varying workflows. Nihilent offers its expertise and services to the ME offices for all customization and support of the UVIS CMS system.
